Welcome to the Puppet Showplace Theatre

Our goal today is exactly the same as founder Mary Churchill's when she opened the theatre 30 years ago—to share with families the very best performances available in this timeless and dynamic art form. We believe it's important for families to experience live theatre together. Puppetry, with its emphasis on creativity, is a particularly powerful medium for children to understand, and often express, ideas.

We present a broad range of stories, styles, and types of puppet from very traditional shows to productions right on the "cutting edge," and everything in between. Marionettes, hand puppets, shadow puppets, rod puppets, masks, actors with puppets, and even "found object" theatre—where ordinary gadgets become characters—grace our stage.

We present shows 50 weeks a year, with a school year schedule that runs from mid-September through late May. Extra shows are added during school vacation weeks. Each show has an age range recommendation to help parents discern its appropriateness for their child.

Unlike most of the other puppet theatres (there are only about 25 others across the nation!) we present one or two different productions each week so families can return again and again.
