Puppets: Education Magic

Puppets:Education Magic Institute is a multifaceted two day institute designed to help people who work in the area of Puppetry in Education and Therapy discover and develop the tools they need to use puppetry in their work and/or other areas of their lives.

The Institute includes hands-on workshops, performances for children and families, evening extension classes for in-depth experience, exhibits and more.

For more information, please visit Judith O'Hare's web site: You and Me Puppets.

Workshops

While PST does not teach workshops on a scheduled basis, we do offer them to interested groups. Workshops can be arranged for school groups, scout troops, camps, and after school programs for children 6 and up. Various workshops can be arranged by our staff, including rod puppets, shadow puppets, and simple scarf marionettes. All workshops include puppet making and performances techniques.

Workshops are $100 for groups up to 20 ($5 for each additional child.) Materials fees are included in the price.

The maximum for workshops is 40, with some exceptions.

Note: Though PST staff does not travel to teach workshops, we can sometimes recommend puppet teachers who can come to your school or activity center.

Feel free to contact our office for more details at 617-731-6400.

Library

The Boston Area Guild of Puppetry maintains a library of puppetry books that is housed at Puppet Showplace Theatre.

While the books in this library are not available for loan, the public is welcome to use the library by appointment at times that are convenient to the theatre (for instance, our lobby is small, so the hour before a performance is not the most convenient time to have visitors).

The library includes everything from books on puppet history to "how to" books for the budding puppeteer. The library also accepts and is grateful for appropriate donations of puppet and puppet-related books.

Lectures

Occasionally, our Artist in Residence, Paul Vincent Davis, will prepare a lecture or slide lecture for groups or conferences or we can recommend other speakers on a limited basis.

Internships

Internships are available at the Puppet Showplace for various majors: from art education and sculpture to marketing to art administration.

We are able to design a program that is suitable for college and course requirements. Flexible hours are available. For more information contact our office 617-731-6400.
