About the Class

Learn to make and perform a scarf marionette in the style of legendary master puppeteer Albrecht Roser — guided by PuppetKabob's Sarah Frechette, who learned it from Roser himself! This elegant silk puppet is simple to make, yet expressive even in the hands of a beginner.

All participants will take home a completed scarf marionette and the basic movement vocabulary needed to create a solo performance.

About the Instructor

Sarah Frechette is a touring puppeteer, arts educator, and stop-motion animation fabricator, splitting her time between Vermont, Europe and Portland. She trained with master puppeteer Albrecht Roser at his studio in Buoch, Germany; and is a graduate of UConn’s Puppet Arts Program. Sarah has toured internationally as both PuppetKabob and Night Shade, with an original repertoire of shows and her ensemble of roser-style marionettes across the U.S., Germany, France and China. Her show The Snowflake Man was awarded an UNIMA-USA citation of excellence. Over the past year, Sarah co-produced and hosted Vermont's first ever Creemee Dreemee Puppet Slam; and performed at Highlight NYE in Burlington, VT; the Boulet Brothers (Dragula) Halloween Ball in Los Angeles. CA; Lake Eden Arts Festival's 50th anniversary celebration in Black Mountain, NC; and in Seattle, WA at the Left Coast Puppet Love Fest. All while also honing her skills by working on miniature costumes and large-scale puppets for stop-motion animation films like Netflix's Wendell & Wild!
