Volunteering at Puppet Showplace Theater
Volunteers are an essential part of the Puppet Showplace team. There are lots of ways to get involved, from helping us staff an event, to serving on our Board of Trustees.
On-going volunteer needs:
- Assist with administrative projects
- Distribute flyers for shows and upcoming events
- Provide food (home cooked or purchased) for puppet slam performances or special events
- Run errands that require a car
- House out-of-town performers
- Plan and solicit donations for special events, particularly our annual fundraising gala
- Supervise kids craft activities, both at the theater and at Puppet Invasion events
- Connect us with you child's school for residencies or teaching opportunities
- Recruit and coordinate other volunteers!

Join our Board of Trustees
Puppet Showplace Theater seeks energetic professionals to serve on its Board of Trustees and help shape the future of this established professional theater in Brookline, MA. Puppet Showplace is dedicated to presenting outstanding professional puppetry to diverse audiences through performances, workshops, and community outreach activities. Trustees play an active role in shaping the theater’s direction by providing governance and support to the staff. Trustees also participate in strategic planning. Trustees spend an average 8-10 hours a month addressing the non-profit management of the institution. There are 6 board meetings a year. Trustees also provide direct support to the theater through fundraising and participation on committees.
We are looking for individuals with a passion for performing arts and experience in any of the following areas: finance, fundraising, human resources, legal, performing arts, early childhood, and arts education. Retirees and young professionals welcome. Must be able to attend board meetings and participate on committees. Prior Board experience is beneficial, but not required.

Puppet Showplace Theater is dedicated to presenting outstanding professional puppetry to diverse audiences through performances, workshops, and community outreach activities. Founded in 1974, the theater has become a treasured New England cultural institution. Each year, we present over 300 performances by professional puppet companies drawn from across the country and around the world. Our touring shows travel to schools, libraries, and cultural centers throughout the Northeast region.
Puppet Showplace also has a year-round educational program that includes summer camps for children, family workshops with guest artists, and adult classes. The theater also provides curriculum-based residencies at schools, presents shows to school groups, and offers study guides to teachers.
Puppet Showplace has an average annual attendance of 24,000 patrons. Audiences are drawn from throughout the New England region and include tourists to the Boston area.The theater is run by an experienced staff and a volunteer Board of Trustees. We are supported by contributions from individual donors, local businesses, and foundation and government grants.
