About the Show
It’s the Year of the Horse! Join Horse for puppet skits, dances, songs, and Chinese sayings that celebrate the wit and wisdom of the Chinese Zodiac animals! Experience traditional Bu Dai Xi puppetry in Chinese Theater Works’s jolly, wild romp created in honor of the Lunar New Year.
Plus, the show closes with a hands-on demonstration that makes this Chinese bilingual cultural experience accessible to even the youngest audience members!
After the Show: Meet the Puppets & More!
Stay after the show to meet the artists and see the puppets up close — the artists speak Mandarin and English!
Plus — Ever wondered how your name would be written in Chinese calligraphy?! After the show, the artists will be offering just that for a small fee.
And, join us in the lobby to enjoy coloring sheets inspired by the show, a dress-up station, bubbles, and sidewalk chalk! These activities are available after every performance, 11:30 am - 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm - 2:30 pm.
All ages welcome; recommended for everyone 3 and up! No matter your age, you will be delighted by the storytelling, wit, and skill in this traditional form of puppetry!

About the Artist
Chinese Theatre Works (CTW) was incorporated in 2001 through the merger of two cultural organizations dedicated to traditional and innovative contemporary Chinese performing arts: the Gold Mountain Institute for Traditional Shadow Theatre (founded in 1975) and Chinese Theatre Workshop (founded in 1990). CTW’s mission is to preserve and promote traditional Chinese performing arts, create new works that bridge Eastern and Western aesthetics and practices, and foster understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture among audiences, students, artists, and educators worldwide. CTW’s creative staff is led by Co-Artistic Directors Kuang-Yu Fong and Stephen Kaplin. The company includes a core team of professional puppeteers, artists, musicians, and educators, as well as a cohort of highly trained Chinese opera performers. CTW presents between 90 and 130 programs annually, touring throughout New York City, nationally, and internationally. Since its founding, CTW has produced over 40 original productions and has received numerous awards at international puppet theater festivals.
