MFA Teen Sundays: Puppet Improv with Puppet Showplace Theater

Join the MFA Teens for a puppet improv workshop from Puppet Showplace Theater. There is limited space available, fill out this form to reserve your spot!

Get out of your head and into your hands in this fun puppet improv class taught by veteran improviser and puppeteer Sarah Nolen from Puppet Showplace Theater! At the beginning of the workshop, you’ll create your own “peepers” puppet — a simple set of expressive eyeballs that you can take home with you! Then, we’ll dive into participatory games and a crash course in hand-and-rod “Muppet-style” puppet manipulation to get everyone moving and creating right away. We’ll learn idea-generation skills and scene-building techniques in pursuit of our ultimate mission: to create amazing puppet sketches and zany solo performances with zero scripting or prior preparation. Along the way, we'll discover the outrageous possibilities of puppetry.

This event will take place on Sunday, March 1, 2026, 12-3pm (class begins at 1pm) at the MFA. Feel free to arrive as early as 12pm and hang out, make a puppet, and enjoy snacks! Participants are recommended to be present by 1pm in order to fully experience the workshop. By registering, you confirm that you are a teen!
